Lauren Hayhurst

Fisheries Research Biologist, IISD-ELA

Lauren (she/her) is a Fish Research Biologist at IISD Experimental Lakes Area.

Her areas of expertise include long-term ecological research, non-lethal fish capture and sample collection, fish population estimation, catch-per-unit-effort assessment, and bioenergetics modelling. She schedules the seasonal fish monitoring program, compiles the fish morphometrics dataset, and oversees the ageing, broadscale monitoring, and by-catch work on the site’s fish crew.

Lauren started her freshwater research at the University of Manitoba in Environmental Studies (Co-operative Education) and has completed a Master’s Degree in Biology at Lakehead University, evaluating bioenergetic response of Yellow Perch to a whole-ecosystem nanosilver addition.

Lauren holds memberships with the American Fisheries Society (Ontario Chapter), InFish Network, International Association for Great Lakes Research, Lake of the Woods Stewardship Association, Ontario Nature, and the Society of Canadian Aquatic Sciences.
